At times on earth, there appear persons like meteors in the sky. Such persons register their presence as sages, hermits, ascetics or mystics. The meteors appear when the balance of gravitation between the heavenly bodies gets disturbed. Similarly, the turmoil on our mother earth summons such celestial bodies in flesh and blood. Anandmurti Gurumaa is a rare meteor in the galaxy of spiritual leaders.

Born on 8th of April 1966 at Amritsar, in Punjab her early life showed extraordinary signs of a mystic in the making. She was born to a  family who had high devotion and love towards all religions and saints. From the very beginning small incidents would take place, which strengthened their belief that the child born to them was not an ordinary one. Various mystics would visit their house and showed special affection for this child.

From the tender age of nine Gurumaa would ask different questions from her school teachers and people around, these people use to be held in surprise by her sharp intellect and deep insight in spirituality. It was very unlikely of the child of her age to ask such questions.

Gurumaa received her education from convent school. One day a missionary came to her school to deliver lessons on moral science. Gurumaa stood up and asked this missionary a very deep question, who is God? Have you experienced his presence? Are you reading about God from the scriptures or whatever you are saying is your own experience. The missionary did not answer anything and straight away went to the principle of the school. Gurumaa was called in the principle’s office. Gurumaa’s parents were also called to the school. The missionary then requested Gurumaa’s parents to give him the child as she is an exceptional child who would spread the message of Christianity.

From very beginning Gurumaa showed a special affinity towards seers. She would listen to their talks and would ask them question. They would happily answer all her questions as they knew that she was not asking the ordinary questions. Gurumaa started composing poetry at a very early age. These poetic expressions came from the depth of her heart. They were her innocent offering to the divine where divine was perceived as the beloved, and sometimes as friend.

She had travelled extensively with these mystics to holy places of Haridwar and Vrindavan. Gurumaa attained enlightenment in the age of sixteen at holy place of Vrindavan. There after her love for divine reached its ultimate blossoming.

She continued with her studies but her life was very unlikely of a normal student. Immediately after attending the school she would rush to the place where she had to deliver satsang. People were drawn to her satsang and made every endeavour to be part of that Amrit Varsha. They experienced immense divine vibrations and would swing to divine ecstasy under the influence of her soul stirring voice.

Gurumaa left her home at the age of 21 and shifted her presence in the mountain areas of Rishikesh. Initially she confined herself to Rishikesh but subsequently the fragrance of divine love spread itself and reached the masses. Thirty seven years have passed since her birth but the flame of divinity kindled by her is still burning and lighting up the hearts of people all over the globe. She is an antidote to the bruised hearts of million.

Fortunate are the ones who are being guided by her divine presence.
